The Morland Scottish Country Dancing week began in 1987, and for nearly 20 years had the benefit of John Drewry and Jackie Johnstone as writers and teachers.  After their retirement, we moved to a new pattern, sharing out among ourselves the work of compiling dance programmes and running morning workshops.  For the morning sessions we use recorded music, but for the evening dances we have the services of the highest calibre of live musicians.

Dates for 2018 are Sunday evening, May 27th to Friday evening, June 1st.  (Most people stay over the extra night and go home on the Saturday.) Full information about the 2018 week can be found here.

We have an annual Choral Weekend which began life in 2006.  This is jointly organised with a choir from Aberdeen, Northern Voices, but we welcome singers from all over the UK.  There have been half a dozen different choir trainers over the years, giving a varied and interesting repertoire.

The date for 2018 is Friday evening, June 15th to Sunday, June 17th, and the director will be Jane Murray, from Aberdeen.  Full information can be found here.

The Morland Choristers’ Camp is an event for 9-17 year-old youngsters, and it is getting on for 50 years old!  Have a look at the website here.  It runs from the last Sunday in July to the first Sunday in August every year.

The ‘Taste of Morland’ weekend is an introduction to the Morland Choristers’ Camp for younger children, with the age-range 6-12.  We sing sacred and secular music and have lots of outdoor fun as well.  The date for 2018 is May 19-20.

The Morland Folk Dance Week began in 1986.  We have had a great variety of bands and callers over the years, and latterly the core callers have been Victoria Yeomans and Ian Jones, with Deo Volente and Kendal Green bands.  There are workshop sessions in the daytime in Morland Village Hall and in the Great Barn at Newby End Farm, and social dances in the evenings.  Our philosophy is based on the belief that our dances, old and new, are a priceless inheritance and that our pleasure in dancing them is enhanced immeasurably when we dance them well, concentrating on embodying the music and  without the need for constant calling.

The 2018 Folk Dance Week begins on Saturday, August 11th.

Full information can be found here.

Our weekend of social Scottish Country Dancing is aimed at people who have done some SCD but would perhaps be daunted by the intricacies of the more complex dances that we have.  Come for enjoyment and fun, and extend your repertoire a little.  We are led by Geoff Entwistle, who has a way of making it all seem easy!  The dates for 2018 are October 19th to 21st.

Full details can be found here.
