Our next big event is a concert given by Platform Music, a string quartet including cellist Sarah Gait, a regular visitor to the Great Barn, on Sunday, November 17th, at 2.00 pm.  Please note that this is a revised date.  The programme includes music by Mozart, Webern, Judith Weir and Mendelssohn.

The ‘Taste of Morland’ weekend is an introduction to the Morland Choristers’ Camp for younger children, with the age-range 6-12.  We sing sacred and secular music and have lots of outdoor fun as well.  The date for 2020 is May 16-17.

The Morland Scottish Country Dancing week began in 1987, and for nearly 20 years had the benefit of John Drewry and Jackie Johnstone as writers and teachers.  After their retirement, we moved to a new pattern, sharing out among ourselves the work of compiling dance programmes and running morning workshops.  For the morning sessions we use recorded music, but for the evening dances we have the services of the highest calibre of live musicians.

Dates for 2020 are Monday evening, May 25th to Friday evening, May 29th.  (Most people stay over the extra night and go home on the Saturday.)

We have an annual Choral Weekend which began life in 2006.  This is jointly organised with a choir from Aberdeen, Northern Voices, but we welcome singers from all over the UK.  There have been half a dozen different choir trainers over the years, giving a varied and interesting repertoire.

The date for 2020 is Friday evening, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th, and the director will be Jill Henderson-Wild.

The Morland Choristers’ Camp is an event for 9-17 year-old youngsters, and in 2020 it will be for 50 years old!  Have a look at the website here.   (https://morland.org.uk/)  It runs from the last Sunday in July to the first Sunday in August every year.

The Morland Folk Dance Week began in 1986.  We have had a great variety of bands and callers over the years, and latterly the core callers have been Victoria Yeomans and Ian Jones, with Deo Volente and Kendal Green bands.  There are workshop sessions in the daytime in Morland Village Hall and in the Great Barn at Newby End Farm, and social dances in the evenings.  Our philosophy is based on the belief that our dances, old and new, are a priceless inheritance and that our pleasure in dancing them is enhanced immeasurably when we dance them well, concentrating on embodying the music and  without the need for constant calling.

The 2020 Folk Dance Week begins on Saturday, August 8th.

‘Byrd, Britten and Beyond’ is a Choral Weekend for experienced singers which takes place roughly every 18 months.  It is directed by Ian Jones.  We have a core of regular attenders who are always happy to welcome new members to the group.  The next of these is on May 7th to 9th, 2021. Further information can be had from Ian at ij_kg@btinternet.com
