The ‘Taste of Morland’ weekend is an introduction to the Morland Choristers’ Camp for younger children, with the age-range 6-12.  We sing sacred and secular music and have lots of outdoor fun as well.
Dates for this year are May 21st/22nd.

The Morland Scottish Country Dancing week began in 1987, and for nearly 20 years had the benefit of John Drewry and Jackie Johnstone as writers and teachers.  After their retirement, we moved to a new pattern, sharing out among ourselves the work of compiling dance programmes and running morning workshops.  For the morning sessions we use recorded music, but for the evening dances we have the services of the highest calibre of live musicians.

After the interruption of Covid, we are confident that 2022 will happen, starting on Monday evening, May 30th and going through to Friday evening, June 3rd.  (Most people stay over the extra night and go home on the Saturday.)
Please email David Jones (david@newbyendfarm.co.uk) for full details.

We have an annual Choral Weekend which began life in 2006.  This is jointly organised with a choir from Aberdeen, Northern Voices, but we welcome singers from all over the UK.  There have been half a dozen different choir trainers over the years, giving a varied and interesting repertoire.  Our Director this year will be Jill Henderson-Wild.  The dates will be June 17th to 19th.

Originally from Oldham, Jill is well known as a choral director, having worked for the Gulbenkian Foundation, Sing for Pleasure, and choirs in York, Sheffield and Leeds.  She is currently Musical Director of the Manchester Chorale as well as being Vocal Animateur for Stockport, supporting and promoting singing within all the borough’s schools.

The Morland Choristers’ Camp is an event for 9-17 year-old youngsters, with lots of fun, singing many sorts of music and enjoying outdoor activities.  Camp happened in 2021, though in a truncated form forced on us by Covid.  We confidently expect it to be back to full strength in 2022.  Have a look at the website here.   (https://morland.org.uk/)  It runs from the last Sunday in July to the first Sunday in August every year.

The Morland Folk Dance Week began in 1986.  We have had a great variety of bands and callers over the years, and latterly the core callers have been Victoria Yeomans and Ian Jones, with Deo Volente and Kendal Green bands.  There are workshop sessions in the daytime in Morland Village Hall and in the Great Barn at Newby End Farm, and social dances in the evenings.  Our philosophy is based on the belief that our dances, old and new, are a priceless inheritance and that our pleasure in dancing them is enhanced immeasurably when we dance them well, concentrating on embodying the music and  without the need for constant calling.

The 2022 Folk Dance Week begins on Saturday, August 13th.
Please email David Jones (david@newbyendfarm.co.uk) for full details.

‘Byrd, Britten and Beyond’ is a Choral Weekend for experienced singers which takes place roughly every 18 months.  It is directed by Ian Jones.  We have a core of regular attenders who are always happy to welcome new members to the group.  The next of these will be in the Spring of 2023 and full information can be had from Ian at ij_kg@btinternet.com
